Green Mary is a collection of sonnets written by Eliza Swann in the wake of poet Bernadette Mayer’s passing. While recovering from illness, Swann began writing a sonnet a day to connect to Mayer. While writing, a glowing green vision of Mary Magdalene appeared at the foot of her bed and began to guide the work. These sonnets reflect on living through domestic violence, cancer, New York landlords, and surgery, while also celebrating queer sex, love, community, and the strange magic of being alive.
